If you are done with shaving and waxing, laser is the alternative. It targets the hair follicle to reduce hair growth over a course of sessions. How many sessions you need depends on your hair colour and skin type, and results vary from person to person.

We treat with the Candela GentleMax Pro, which cools the skin through the handpiece as it works. The consultation is free and takes 15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser hair removal can be performed on almost any area of the body, including the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, back, chest, and abdomen.

Laser hair removal can provide long-term hair reduction, but it is not guaranteed to be completely permanent. It typically results in a significant reduction in hair growth, with some individuals experiencing permanent hair loss. Maintenance sessions may be required periodically to maintain the results.

The number of sessions required varies depending on factors such as the individual's hair type, color, and thickness, as well as the treatment area. Generally, multiple sessions are needed to target hair follicles in different growth cycles. On average, it may take 6 to 8 sessions for optimal results.

Most people describe it as a quick flick against the skin, like a rubber band snap. The GentleMax Pro cools the skin through the handpiece as it works, which takes the edge off. Coarser hair and bonier areas tend to sting more than soft areas. If you want the detail, we wrote an honest answer for first-timers.

While laser hair removal is generally safe, there can be temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, and slight skin irritation immediately after the treatment. In rare cases, blistering, scarring, or changes in skin pigmentation may occur. It's important to choose a qualified professional and follow their instructions for proper care before and after the treatment.

Shave the area 12 to 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, pluck or epilate for at least four weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the hair root to still be there. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for two weeks before treatment, and arrive with the area clean and free of deodorant, moisturiser or makeup.

Some redness and small bumps around the follicles are common for a few hours. Keep the area clean, and avoid hot showers, saunas, swimming and the gym for 24 to 48 hours. Use SPF on any treated area that will see sun. Shedding usually starts within one to three weeks, and that is treated hair falling out rather than regrowth.

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects hair that is in its active growth phase on the day of treatment. Only part of the hair in any area is in that phase at a given time, which is why sessions are spaced weeks apart and why a course works better than a single visit.

Laser targets the pigment in the hair, so it works best where there is contrast between the hair and the skin. It does not treat white, grey or very fine fair hair, because there is not enough pigment for the laser to find. Your skin tone also affects which settings can be used safely. Your therapist checks both at the free consultation and patch tests before your first full session.
